Returning the Nightingale Hospital Back into a University Campus

  • 250+ beds
  • Removal of 500+ workstations
  • Project completed 1 day ahead of schedule

When the world was hit by a global pandemic in 2020, the NHS was stretched to breaking point resulting in the requirement to quickly create ‘popup’ hospitals in temporary locations around the UK.

One such location was the Nightingale Hospital in Bristol, set up at the University of the West of England’s Frenchay campus with the capacity to treat up to 1,000 people and host 300 beds with ventilators.

Although thankfully it was never required for its original purpose, it was then used by Bristol Royal Hospital for Children for daytime paediatric services, and the Bristol Eye Hospital for patient assessments.

In April 2021 it was decided that the temporary hospital was no longer required and needed to be returned to its former use.

The Link PPS team were commissioned to undertake two key elements of the strip out, which needed to be completed to strict deadlines:

  • Removal from site and loading of 500+ workstations onto trailers to be sent back to the distribution centre.
  • Removal of beds 250+ beds, medical equipment and other additional items from site. Palletising the product and loading onto 12 x trailers over the week duration.

Working closely with the NHS on site liaison, Link were able to complete the project one day early.

"Thanks for your support with this project and in particular for closing out a day ahead of schedule. Much appreciated."
